Chief Examiner/E-learning developer
I am a Time Served experienced Sheet Metal Worker and HVAC Engineer. Whilst in industry in particular the oil and gas sector on offshore platforms. This experience as an Engineer has given me a in depth knowledge of Engineering and allows me to relate to the IMechE applicants.
Whilst I have been in training/teaching, I was responsible for the creation and maintenance of work permits, risk assessments and creation of course materials/learning resources for various courses for different awarding bodies including EAL, City and Guilds, BTEC, AQA, OCR and colleges and training providers. I have also taught learners from 13 up to adults in various Engineering courses. I have an in depth understanding of apprenticeships as I have gone through an apprenticeship, taught and assessed apprenticeships and developed resources for apprenticeships.
In my previous roles I have been involved in OFSTED inspections, both whilst teaching and being observed but also whilst assessing learner’s work.
I have had to develop E-Learning and curriculum/learning content for various qualifications which gives me a good in-depth knowledge of various qualifications. I have taught learners from 13-16 years old, apprentices and adults looking to upskill particularly on night classes. I have worked to IFATE standards/apprenticeship standards and frameworks. I have also worked as an instructional designer as a freelancer in the past.
I have worked on a freelance basis as a Lead content writer/technical author for a publishing company creating Engineering qualification content/learning content to be sold to FE colleges and training providers, I have also helped to develop the product structures and exam marking. I have also worked as an examiner, reviewer, Scrutineer and Assessment writer for NCFE marking 14–16-Year-olds V Cert Engineering exam papers and perform assessment reviews on synoptic projects and exam papers and as an assessment reviewer. This has included developing new models of service delivery for engineering courses.
I am currently Chief examiner for City and Guilds T Levels and hold an A1 Assessors award and Level 5 Certificate in Education. Most of my previous roles both in industry and in teaching and assessing have meant travelling regularly across the country and abroad.
I have proven experience in a complex business development environment. I have also developed the ability to influence, advise and coach others through all my job roles.
My previous roles have helped me to develop excellent people and relationship management skills as well making me a good communicator, both orally and written. I have very good presentation skills which have been developed over my time working in teaching and my current role as a BDE, I am confident and comfortable speaking in front of others including large audiences.
I work in a Professional way with personal integrity and am able to make rational, realistic and sound decisions.
I have been involved with budgets in the past both in my freelance work but also when working in training providers looking after Engineering departments budget. I can manage my own workload with the ability to manage conflicting priorities.
I am self-confident and robust in my decision making –and willing to make decisions whilst balancing conflicting objectives. I have a current clean driving licence and am based in the region specified and able to travel regularly to meet key clients.
I have strong administration skills and am proficient in Microsoft Office programs Word, Excel, Outlook and rapid authoring tools such as Articulate 360 amongst others.
